Belcher Button Example

In any business, if you don't continuous keep up with the literature, you get left behind. And frankly, you will be hard pressed to find any other industry that moves as fast the Internet. So in one of my many pursuit of information, I came across this “Belcher Button” named after its creator Perry Belcher, which claims to be the “world's highest converting buy button”.

See an example of one on the right.

Belcher Button - "Buy Now" Button is Powerful

There are probably many variations of it in the web even if it wasn't done so consciously. According to Perry, this button has close sales by "35 to 320% over ANY other buy button… been tested individually in over 10,000 closed transactions." I must admit, I have been using this button and have gotten some gotten initial good results. I am still testing my results but I am pleased enough with the results that I will be converting all my sales sites to this format.

The Belcher button basically consist of the following

  • The Buy Area
  • The Dashed Border
  • Price Drop
  • Add to Cart Button
  • Add to Cart Text Link
  • Credit Card Symbol

You can see the breakdown of the parts in the image below.

Parts of a Belcher Button

I am not going to elaborate too much on the mechanics of each part. But if you are insatiably curious like me and like to know how it fits together, you can read in detailed at my Street Guide to Copywriting blog.

Perry is generous enough to provide his belcher button from his blog for free. Yep, that means, you don’t even have to give our email address. But the “problem” with the button is that he just give it as a flatten image format which you may have guess, making it very difficult for you to edit/customize.

Customize Belcher Button

So, I have made an HTML version of it which allows you to easily change every part of the Belchar Button and am giving it to you for you to freely use as you wish. Unfortunately, due to security, I am unable to upload the zip files here so you have to head over to this site to get the HTML source here (I can't make it a link because Hub Pages won't allow it, just copy and paste it):

I have customized the Belcher button in such a way that you can change the text, styling and images of just about everything rather easily and, of course, with the source code you can change anything else you want also. I do strongly suggest that you do not change much with this button at least to start, and then do some split testing yourself later.

If you have questions about it let me know by leaving a comment below and I’ll answer them and, if there are lots of questions, I may create a video showing you how to do it.

Don't be shy. Tell me what you really think ...

For me I don't have room for such a big button and i don't feel it's as professional as I like. I mean it looks a little gimmicky. Still better then most I have seen. I am looking for a simple buy now button with little or no extra stuff around it.

Spot, the advantage of a Belcher button is that it really converts well so while you might think it looks "gimmicky" but it gets most people more sales which is the whole purpose of selling!

That's why you see it, or variations of it, so many places now.

Part of the "stuff" around the button is to attract the attention of your prospect and to entice them to press the button.

You should give it a try and see how it works for you before you reject it because it works very well for almost everyone.

Good luck, David
